Being a part of the Miss USA pageant during my freshman year of college was a decision that pushed me out of my comfort zone and transformed my life in ways I could have never imagined. As someone who had always been shy and insecure, taking part in such a prestigious event was both exhilarating and daunting. I proudly represented Miss Superstition Mountain in Arizona, a title that opened doors to numerous community service projects and exciting opportunities.

During my Miss USA journey, I discovered facets of myself that I hadn't explored before. It was a year of self-discovery, where I began to understand my passions and the direction I wanted to pursue in life. One of the most beautiful aspects of being part of the pageant world was the friendships I formed. I met incredible individuals who shared similar aspirations and values, and their support and encouragement fueled my growth.
The pageant experience introduced me to a whole new realm of beauty and fitness. With the guidance of a personal trainer-turned-mentor, I learned the importance of working out effectively and taking care of my body. As someone who was not naturally inclined towards dancing or graceful movements, the pageant taught me valuable lessons in holding my head high, speaking confidently, and making eye contact. These seemingly small accomplishments were significant milestones for someone like me, and they contributed to my personal growth.
However, the pageant world also had its less glamorous side. Behind the scenes, there were instances of cutthroat competition and attempts to sabotage one another. Some contestants resorted to sneaky tactics, like bringing tempting snacks to derail others' diets before the swimsuit segment. While it may seem trivial, these experiences shed light on the realness and fakeness that coexist in the pageant world.

I realized that many contestants were coached to perfection, sometimes losing their own authentic voice along the way. This journey exposed the realities of human behavior, showcasing both the genuine and the manufactured sides of people. Despite the challenges and the occasional negativity, I walked away from the experience with invaluable life lessons and personal growth that surpassed any placement or crown.

One aspect I laughed about in the pageant journey was the opportunity to learn unconventional beauty hacks. One particular trick that surprised me was using chilled tea bags under my eyes to reduce puffiness and eliminate dark circles before a photo shoot or important event. It became my secret weapon for looking refreshed and rejuvenated. And who could forget the hairspray on the buttocks trick to prevent swimsuit ride-ups? These unusual but effective tips became fond memories that still bring a smile to my face. (It really works!)
Reflecting on my Miss USA journey as a 19-year-old, I gained a deeper perspective on life, discovering the strength and resilience within myself. It was a remarkable experience that pushed me beyond my comfort zone, helping me realize the extent of my capabilities. While pageantry may not be everyone's cup of tea, I hope that people can see the positive aspects and personal growth that can arise from such experiences, even in the face of certain controversies.
So, to all the young dreamers out there, don't be afraid to explore uncharted territories and push your limits. You never know how far you can go until you take that leap of faith. Embrace the challenges, savor the moments of growth, and always remember that beauty is not merely external but a reflection of your inner strength and authenticity.
